Exploration #10 allowed us to roll up our sleeves and get extremely messy! Just kidding, we didn’t get THAT messy…..
We were so lucky to welcome owners of Garden Scents into the world of Awakening Passions! Candace and Wade are involved members of the City of Chestermere and valued members of the PWES family.
Candace grew up on a farm and learned how to garden at a young age. Her interest in gardening grew and when she was in high school she worked at a greenhouse during her summer holidays. She enjoyed this and decided to go to college and study horticulture and learn more about plants and greenhouses. After college she worked growing and managing nurseries until 2012 when she opened Garden Scents Garden Center with her husband!
Wade’s interest in horticulture began when he worked one summer with his grandpa doing yard maintenance. After this summer he took a couple horticulture class in high school. After high school he worked at a garden Center, then worked for a garden supply company and decided to go to college and study horticulture. He attended university in Australia to study and completed his degree in horticulture. He continued work for the garden supply company for several years and then worked for a wholesale plant nursery until 2012 when he started Garden Scents garden Center with his wife.
After they shared their stories and journey of their passion, we were asked to jump right in! The room was soon full of strong wonders, laughter and soil-covered hands! The energy was contagious!
We got to closely examine the various seeds and talk about the steps and care that is required to grow different plants! We even got to look at a Venus Fly Trap, that was a HUGE hit!
We each got to plant 2 different things and got to take them home! Here is a look at some of our final products…
A HUGE thank you to Wade and Candance for spending the day with us, more importantly…sharing their PASSION! We have started to discover a few new “green thumbs” in our class….hopefully they will be able to teach Ms. Mrak a thing or two!
If you are getting ready to build your garden, make sure to pop by Garden Scents and say hello to our friends! 🙂
I like growing my own plants
i think that was my favourite because we got to plant other things and maybe put them in a garden.
I really enjoyed gardening but I don’t think it is my favourite.
But I still have my plants and I’m still taking care of my plants and the one that used to be a seed is really BIG now!
