Dear future grade 5 students
My name is Sandra our central idea is an inquiry into the nature of a self belief and values personal physical mental social and spiritual health human relationship including families friends community’s and cultural rights and responsibility what it means to be human. My topic is water pollution and how it affects the bow river watershed. I choose this topic because I wanted to learn more about water pollution and help stop it.
My first piece of advice is to pick a topic you want to do and don’t pick a topic your friends choose because if you choose a topic your friends choose then you and your friends(s)will talk and fool around and not get your work done.
My second Piece of is cooperate with your partner(s) so that you can get along and so you can get your work done rather then arguing because if you argue and don’t work then you will not get your work done and you will have to catch up on all of the work.
My third piece of advice is to site your source right away because if you don’t site your source right a way then you will have to go back and have to find all of your sources and it will take a long time.
I hope this letter helps you during exhibition in working with your partner(s) use your time wisely and not forgetting your information/ sources.
Dear Future Grade 5 Students
Hello My name is Nooren,Our Central idea was Society’s Responsibility is to build a physically and mentally healthy community. My topic for Exhibition was Water Pollution and how it affects the Bow River Watershed.
My first piece of advice is pick a topic that you are passionate about not a topic your friend wants. Because your going to learn about that topic for 10 weeks and if your not interested in that topic it’s going to be boring and hard. But if you pick a topic you like it’s going to be fun even without your friends.
My second piece of advice is that you stay focused and stay on task. If you don’t further on you are going to struggle because your going to be left behind and being left behind on one thing in exhibition is a big deal it will affect you a lot.
My last piece of advice is that when it’s showcase time make sure to speak loud and clear so you look and sound confident also always keep eye contact with everyone so that you look interested and it will keep the audience interested. Lastly don’t fidget because if you fidget you will look like your nervous and don’t know your topic perfectly.
I hope that my feedback will help you throughout exhibition.
Make sure to pick a topic you like, stay on task, speak loud and clear keep eye contact and don’t fidget.
Best wishes from Nooren
Dear future grade 5 students,
Hi my name is Ali. our central idea is Society’s responsibility is to build a physically and mentally healthy community. My exhibition topic was water pollution and how it affects the bow river. I chose this topic because I felt bad for people that don’t have access to clean water, and I wanted to make a change. In this letter I will be giving you advice for exhibition.
My first piece of advice is to pick a topic that you want not your friend, because if you choose a topic that your friend wants then your not passionate about it and you and your friends relationship could spread apart.
My second piece of advice is to use your time wisely and don’t fool around with other groups because me and my group were talking to other groups and then in the middle of exhibition we realized that we didn’t have any more time to fool around and talk with other groups, then we started using our time wisely.
My last piece of advice is to always site your sources and try to put information in your own words because if you don’t site your sources and you say that it’s your information then you could get in big trouble, try to put it in your own words so that you can explain it better.
I hope this letter helps you during exhibition in working on picking a topic that your interested in, using your time wisely, and siting your sources.
Dear Future Grade 5 Students,
Hello My name is Kamryn, Our Central idea was Society’s Responsibility is to build a physically and mentally healthy community. My topic for Exhibition was Water Pollution and how it affects the Bow River Watershed.
My First piece of advice is pick a topic YOU want to do. Don’t pick what your friends want because it is 9 weeks and if you don’t like your topic it is going to be a long 9 weeks. Also you can get into fights with your friends or friend and maybe ruin your friendship.
My second piece of advice is use your time wisely because we only have 9 weeks and that’s not a lot of time to do all lot of work that you have to do in Exhibition. Also Exhibition has a lot of preparing.
My last piece of advice is once you get your information cite your sources right away because if you don’t you will probably forget where you got the information from and if you don’t cite your sources you can get in trouble.
I hope that this letter will help you with Exhibition remember pick a topic that YOU want NOT your friends want, Use your time wisely and cite your sources right away.
The biggest challenge I faced was figuring out what our main idea was and also creating our research questions, I think that was a challenge for me is because for our main idea we wanted to do how water pollution affected animals but we couldn’t do that because it didn’t connect to the central idea so we had to figure something else out. Creating our research questions was also a struggle for me because our group was really focused on the colour rather than the writing and we were trying to connect all of the questions to the key concepts so we didn’t get that done for a while.
How I worked to overcome those challenges is for our main idea Mrs Hooper mentioned the bow river and we were interested with it so we chose that as our main idea. We finally got our questions done because Mrs Cask said that she wanted us to make 50 questions about water pollution rather than 10 questions that connect to the key concepts.
I’ve learned about myself that I really care about the environment and that if I ever saw someone litter or throw something in the water like plastic, garbage, oil or anything like that I would say” hey when you threw that garbage on the ground it can pollute the water by when it rains all the garbage flows into the lakes, oceans, rivers and ponds and it makes the water polluted.
The most meaningful thing about exhibition to me was when we made the showcase and did the exhibition night because that was the most fun for me because our group was the most Collaborative During that point.
what I would do differently is our creative piece because I feel we did a little messy so what I would do if I did exhibition again I would do a different creative piece that’s more personal and nice rather than messy.
Some advice for the kids is to task don’t fool around and stay focused on your work and don’t talk to other groups.
My biggest challenge I faced during Exhibition was citing my sources and finding websites I can trust. The reason that this was challenging is because sometimes the websites didn’t give all of the information that you had to cite for your bibliography. For example sometimes it didn’t have when it was published or it was really hard to find when it was published. Also it was hard to find websites I can trust because when my group went on to google because Miss Hoopers websites didn’t answer two of our questions (perspective and connection) so we went on google and it was hard to find information that we trust so we had to go on a different website to see if we found the same information so we knew if was true. Then once we did that we had to cite two of our sources so it was a really long process to cite our sources so it took up some of our research time.
I can solve this problem (citing my sources) by not taking so much time on citing my sources and looking in more detail on Miss hoopers websites because our group knows that we can trust her websites because Miss hooper took the time to find the websites. Also we can look harder for the information for citing our sources (bibliography) just in case we missed it.
I have learned about myself during Exhibition is that I like working with other people especially if they are my friends because I feel comfortable saying my ideas around my friends because they make me feel more confident and comfortable. Also they help me concentrate because they know how I feel and what helps me concentrate.
The most important and meaningful thing was having people (experts) come in or phone call us, Skype and talk to us about our topic because people took their time out of their busy day and came and talked about what they did so it can help us during Exhibition.
What I would do differently is instead of making out poster of garbage from the pond if we could I would have have got the garbage from the bow river because our topic was around bow river so I think it would be more fitting if we got it from the bow river.
My advice for Exhibition to the next grade fives is don’t rush but don’t take a lot of time on one thing because you only have 9 weeks I know that might seem a lot but it isn’t so take your time don’t rush but don’t take to much time. Also another piece of advice is that don’t fight over something that isn’t necessary because it will take time away from actual work time. Also when you are sharing your topic with other people you need to slow down Relax and speak loud because there will be other people around you so you need to speak loud so the people that you are sharing your knowledge with can hear you. The last piece of advice is that be per-paired for questions that people might ask.
What is the biggest problem you faced during exhibition? The biggest problem I faced during exhibition was to answer to of the research questions they were connection and perspective. They were hard because no websites had any information about them. Also because everyone was assigned to a question not everybody could help answer it but in the end we got together and tried answering it as best as we could together. Lastly it was hard because we couldn’t find reliable websites which was hard so if we had a answer we would go to other websites to see if the information was true and after all that work we would then bibliography it. that was a little challenging as well because some of the websites had no information about when it was published or anything so that made it hard for us as well.
How did you going to solve or overcome the problem? In the end even tough we all we’re assigned to certain questions in the end we all got together and figured out the answer and how we did that was we all used different resources like books websites so that we could find the answer to one question and in the end we all had a little information so we took all that small ideas and put it together to make a big idea.
What have we learned since being in exhibition? Learned that when I am with people I know very well like my friends I can share my ideas and I know that I work better. The reason is I feel more comfortable and because of that reason I think our exhibition was very successfull. Also I learned that I work better in smaller groups but I feel that even if there is a larger group I work with I can still work and focus.
What was the most important thing about exhibition? I think the most important thing about exhibition was the action. Because if you just talk about it but don’t take action it wouldn’t make sense by taking action it shows you care about the topic and you want to help with it. Also your action can teach others about the topic so they can also help and take action like a club, cougar new or even a small announcement would teach people and help them and your problem. That is why think the action is the most important part of exhibition.
whta would I change in exhibition if I could repeat it? I would probably change maybe next time I would involve the people more like letting them do the watershed or something like that.
What advice would I give to next year students? some advice I would give is that I would tell them to not fidget because if you fidget then they will not focus on you and what your fidgeting on is what they will focus on speak loud, clear and keep eye contact. Because if u don’t keep eye contact they might feel your not interested or your not talking to them.
I think my group did really well on communication skills and I think we had great posture. I think we did good at communication and posture because I feel like when we speaked it was clear and they could understand it and we weren’t fidgeting and we were standing tall. How I think I achieved it. It is because I think we did really well organizing and speaking clear.
I think we had a lot of confidence because we spoked with confidence and we also knew a lot of the answers to all the questions. We also answered a lot of them not all but most. Another thing was we understood a lot of our information about our topic and we were very knowledgeable about our topic.
I think we can talk a little bit louder because people kept on asking if we could say that again. I think we can improve this by talking louder and speak up more because their were a lot of people that were around us that were talking to so that was hard.
I feel I didnt achieve talking loud because I was really quiet and I think I was quiet because there was a lot of people there so I was fidgety, and kinda mumbling because I was nervous so that’s why I was quiet. What I can do to achieve it is not fidget as much and not be nervous.
I feel I achieved this because we organized our showcase amazing and we were vary organized and a bunch of people loved our watershed and poster and we worked well together and didn’t fight or get in a argument.
I think I speaked clear because all the people could understand us and I know that because at the end most of the people said that they could understand us more than other groups and that it was good.
I think our group was really successful with showing visuals because basically everything we said had a visual like the life straw, Water samples, watershed and even for our action we had a slide I am most proud because of the visuals everyone was interested and I feel like it dragged people into our topic as well.
The second thing I was also proud was me and my groups communication skills and eye contact I tried to look at everyone I think I was successful it was just a little hard because there were so many people but I feel I still did good also we all knew what to say but could be louder next time.
i think something I sttrugled at was since I was so nervous I was speaking to fast and also because there were so many people maybe I need to take deep breaths and talk slow and not worry about so many people being around me because everyone makes mistakes.
