Dear Future Grade 5 Students
Hi my name is Kyle Pierce, In exhibition our central idea was, Society’s responsibility is to build a physically and mentally healthy community. I chose the topic “Civil Rights”. I chose this topic because I have learned about it before but I wanted to learn about more. This letter is about advice to you for exhibition.
My 1st piece of advice is to communicate with your partner because if you are working with a partner that you’ve never worked with before, you need to communicate with your partner so you can work well in exhibition. I had a partner that I never worked with before and when I collaborated with him, we got our work done.
My 2nd piece of advice is to split the jobs up evenly between your group members and because you can get your work done much faster. If you don’t, then you won’t get your work done as fast.
My 3rd piece of advice is to get your research done on time because of you don’t, you will fall behind and you won’t be ready for the end of exhibition.
I hope that this helps you, communicate, get your jobs done, and get your research done.
The biggest struggle during exhibition was probably finishing all our action and our showcase done in time for our presentation because it was hard because there was only two people in my group so we didn’t get it done as quick as other groups that had four people.
My group and I solved that challenge because we just moved to a quiet spot and barely communicated because we were so focused with getting the showcase done on time.
The thing that I learned about myself was probably, that I was nervous about it and i was shy during presentation. I think I was nervous about exhibition because I never kne w,y partner before so I thought it wouldn’t be a very good experience. But when I got to know him, I was a good experience
The most important part of exhibition is probably starting out really well and on task because then it will follow on during the rest of exhibition. If you don’t start out well, then you will probably fall behind and not be ready for the presentation.
What I would do differently is probably get more interviews done because we only had two interviews and it didn’t answer all of our questions so I would probably want more interviews.
Some advice is probably to communicate well with your group so you don’t fight. Another piece of advice is to probably stay on task so you don’t fall behind.
I thought my goal went well because if I would get off task I would just move to a different spot or just go for a walk and stretch out.
One post-it that I thought I did well on was, “everyone is prepared” because Jason and I got all of our things like our art and our presentation so we were prepared because we had all of things done so we just neeeded to practice our presentation.
another post-it I thought I did well on is, “good teamwork” because me and Jason, during exhibition we split up different jobs equally between us and I think that makes us a good team.
i don’t think I did well on this one because during our presentation, I would get a bit nervous, then I would slow down and not talk as loud. Also maybe because we had not that much people at a time at our stand and maybe we thought that we didn’t need to talk as loud
What was challenging about the process? I found researching hard because one of our question was to find the points of view why civil rights should not be respected. Making a interview was kind of hard because we need to connect with other people and they might say no to a interview. It’s also challenging because it’s hard the find the right information.
What TD skills are important throughout the process of Exhibition? Self management skills are important because if you don’t self manage you won’t get much done. Also communication skills because you need to communicate to your group.
I am proud of getting my work done on time. I’m also proud of my art and getting our research done.
What was challenging was finding all the information for my topic because most of our research came from interviews. We had lots of websites but it was challenging for us to get the research for our questions.
It was not that normal interviewing adults because kids don’t really talk to adults or experts. Also interviewing people was not that nervous because the people that we interviewed were people that helps the community.
It is important to interview people because for some groups most of their research is from interviews and some websites shows false information.
What I gained from exhibition was getting knowledge of all the problems in the world.
Reading our research is boring because you need to read it again and again but we need to read our research so we can get it in our long term memory.
The displays were fun to do because you get to do some art but some part of the display part was boring because we had the do rough copies.
The rehearsal part was also boring because we had to say mostly the same thing over and over again.
I think I achieved my goal because I always participate in my group.
My group and I have done, we have finished our a showcase and all of our artwork. We have also focused on getting to know our topic really well.
One of our art pieces is a piece of poster paper, with on one side it has a picture of Rosa Parks and we drew the bus that she got kicked off of below the picture of Rosa Parks. On the other side of the poster, there is a picture of Viola Desmound and we drew the theatre that she got kicked out of.
Our other piece of our presentation was a timeline of different civil rights facts and events.
Our preparation for our presentation is to rehearse our conversations and just to stay calm and be confident.
Some challenges were running out of time, but we still managed to get everything done on time. It was a little bit challenging when we were struggling with our research but in the end we got it done. Some successes were when my partner and I were cooperating really well and we split up the jobs of the artwork in half so we could get it done quicker.
Exhibition provides us with working with other people from different class. It also let us learn new things. Also we get to use lots of our TD skills. It also helps us with the future.
Something that people may not know about exhibition is that you do actions about your topic. You can try to help in the future. About your topic you don’t even know. People doing exhibition have to present to the school so they can learn about it.
Achieving me goal has gone good because I always participate in my group about my ideas. My goal is really easy because I know my group well. I think I’ve achieved my goal because my goal is easy for me.
I feel things are going OK but sometimes we can get really focused and get some work done but other times we get distracted but still manage to get things done.
My goal is pushing myself further during reflection time and I think it’s OK. Sometimes I think I’m pushing myself but other times I’m not doing as well with my reflections.
What we need to do next is to get our interviews down and done. We also need to work on our action piece for presentation.
