Dear Future Grade 5 Students,
My name is Safiyah and for my topic, I chose Effects Of Child Neglect. I have three other group members that chose the same topic as me. Surprisingly, even though some of my group members don’t know me very well and I don’t know them, we got along quite well at the end. Our Central Idea:
“ Society’s Responsibility is to Build a Physically and Mentally Healthy Community. “
My first piece of advice is to be principled because if you aren’t, then you might not stay on task very often or get a lot of work done at the end. Why you need to be principled is because Exhibition goes very fast although we had nine weeks to do it, it still felt like it came very quickly. Another reason you have to be principled is because you need to finish a lot of work such as finding places/people to interview, answer questions, finding research, etc.
Another piece of advice that I am sharing with you is to find good sources of information . This might not seem like a ginormous necessity but It will be a huge problem if you didn’t get a lot of great research done and then suddenly have nothing to say during your presentation.
My last piece of advice and most important piece of advice for you is to have fun! This is a one in a lifetime thing. Just appreciate the time that you have and make it last!
Thank you so much for taking the time and giving our group feedback!
I am proud of all of the research that I’ve done. I am proud of this because there was a ton of research that I had to put into my own words and there was lots of words that i didn’t know. I am also proud of not getting off task when other people were.
Sometimes, I found it challenging working with some group members because two of them got in arguments from time to time all because they had different ideas. I also found it challenging presenting to the parents because they would ask more difficult questions and it was harder to answer them.
Interviewing people was very interesting because they knew about our topic very well. All of the people that we interviewed were very inspirational because they were the ones who tries to find a solution to the issue of our topic. Also it was very exciting learning about another perspective of people other than just our group.
I believe it’s important to interview people because I want to see other people’s perspective and see how they feel about the topic. Also, I feel that it’s important because we need to know how the grown ups think about it and get an opinion from adults.
I gained creativity because I was able to think up an artistic piece and finish it without messing up badly. I also gained curiosity because I wanted to learn about my topic and find out more about it. I also gained enthusiasm because I got really excited every time we did Exhibition because I knew I was going to learn something new.
For our poster, me and another group member split the poster paper into four sections and drew different things in each square. We drew hands in two of the squares going diagonally to show how many people care about the children who is neglected. In another square we drew a pie chart. In the centre, we are going to glue the model of the foster home that we made.
For our display, we made a small foster home with paper hands holding hearts to show our support and how much we care about the children who are getting neglected. It is a black and grey painted foster home with a hole in the front to fit the hands through.
How me and my group organized was when we were failing to paint the foster home properly and the cardboard was getting soggy because we painted it too much, we let it dry for a longer amount of time, painted it evenly, and finally finished our foster home. Another reason is when me and my group realized that time was going very fast and we were running out of time, we got started right away and started to organize. When I say “organized”, I mean that we did the things that we needed to do first, and we did the easier things last.
When one group member put too much paint on our foster home and sprayed the home with water, me and the other group members got upset because we worked very hard and had to make it dry for a longer amount of time. Finally in the end, we ended up fixing the problem and we got along very well.
Exhibition provides us with an opportunity to actually meet and interview people. They hopefully know the answers to our questions that we’ve asked or things that we want to know about our topic. They also provide us with the opportunity to work wherever we want to work.
Something that people might not know about Exhibition is that people might not get along with their groups but always finish the project quite well at the end.
Achieving my goal (share ideas) has gone very well because now, i share all of the ideas that come to mind and I give my opinions.
What was challenging about the process?
I found putting things in our own words quite challenging because when there were bigger sentences and answers to our questions that we asked, it was harder to find things that still answer that question but putting it in our own words.
2) What TD skills are important throughout the process of Exhibition?
I think that all of the TD skills are important but one that really stands out is Research Skills because in order to do Exhibition, we need to research and find out things.
3) How does Exhibition inspire you to take action?
It inspires me because before I started my topic, I didn’t really pay enough attention to child neglect, but ever since I researched more and more about my topic I really started to realize how bad it can be. I want to be someone who can help these children and make a difference!
Exhibition is important because even if we know the topic, there are still more things that could be new to us. Also, we can teach others about our topic and some of the details about it.
We do Exhibition because we want to take actions and fix the problem based on our topic. We could also reflect on why we chose our topic, for an example, I chose my topic because I know that it’s wrong, and it’s terrible for someone to do. Also, it’s to learn new things that we haven’t learned before. Also if we don’t know someone in our group, we might be able to get to know them more because you would be spending time with them and learning things about them.
Some of the skills I used throughout the process of exhibition were Research Skills because when we were researching about our topic, I was answering questions and putting them in my own words. I also used Self-Management Skills because I was focused on being on task. Also I had communication skills because whenever I found good information on our topic, I told my group.
This is week Three for my exhibition topic. Me and my group have been working really hard to get this job done and making our work good. We have accomplished so much from this and gotten lots done. We also looked up a ton of research and answered many questions.
