‘Tis The Season

Today was a day full of Christmas. We started with our last concert rehearsal, then we attempted gingerbread houses. We used cooperation to work as a team. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town had just started playing in our classroom and who should walk in? Santa! Our day was finished with a visit from the high school band and some Christmas songs.

Our love of reading

Posted by: | December 15, 2014 | No Comment |

Some students in 3B got to study a fiction chapter book as part of the focussed reading time, CRM. We created a Paper Bag Book Report. After reading to text, we wrote a summary on the back, wrote a review and determined the audience we’d recommend it to, designed a new front cover and collected items from home to put inside. These items had to connect with the character, the setting, and our prior knowledge.

We presented our paper bag to the class and a peer assessed us using a rubric.

We tried some Vegemite. Some of us loved it, some of us were not so sure.

We all became experts in an area of diversity and then shared with our base groups. We were accountable to our group and had to complete the task as a group to receive our reward.

Students got to choose how they were going to present their summative assessment. They used Fakebook, Comic Life and a trading card. These were shared with students from the other classes.

Students were self, peer and teacher assessed.

Chad taught us all sorts of cool things like, the higher the pitch, the higher the sound; the lower the pitch, the lower the sound.

We got to play with lots of instruments, make a “sound sandwich” and perform some drama exercises.
