Problem of the Month

The month there are two K-4 problems. The first problem, The Farmer’s problem is closed in the sense that there is only one possible solution but the path to the solution can vary. The second problem, The Farmer’s Big Problem is similar in nature but much more open. There are many solutions and students can be creative in their method as well as their solution. Take in to account where your students are at and decide the best starting point. Feel free to adjust the context or the numbers to better suit your students.

The Pied Piper Problem is another task all about legs. This requires some very systematic thinking and there are many solutions to this problem. Some students will be able to make algebraic generalizations.

Share your solutions with the rvs numeracy team via Twitter on #rvsnumeracy or send us an email of your students work!
