Equalizer Tool

An equalizer graphic used to represent different elements of our practice and to slide the dial to where we are, and where we want to be. Designing and delivering learning is a complex process with hundreds of variables, rather than a set of fixed binary elements or a pendulum that swings wildly. The art of teaching is like a studio mixing board where we amplify or lower the dials constantly to meet the needs of our learners.

This Gets You
to think break down the art of teaching and to dispense with the popular notion that it is a simple set of binary choices or movements that vacillate between on/off or do/don’t. Instead we adjust the dials amplifying or diminishing certain practices to meet the needs of our learners.

Keep in Mind
this tool is not evaluative, rather a provocation for discussion or reflection. What are the elements that we want to amplify or decrease in our practice or in this opportunity and why?

Protocol:

  1. Equalizer Tool
  2. identify the themes to be explored through the protocol and add them to the slider tags on the tool.
  3. The sliders can be used as a reflective tool, thinking back on what was. The sliders might indicate where we want to be relative to where we are.
