5 Senses and Communication

January 18th, 2017

In Science, we have been learning all about our 5 senses. Today, the children used their different senses to make observations about bacon cooking on an electric grill. It was a delicious afternoon! We have also been talking a great deal about sensory limitations and how they impact our ability to communicate. Recently, we watched a short video clip about Stephen Hawking and the children expressed a great deal of interest in the medical condition, ALS. After doing much reflection on how this diagnosis affects an individual’s ability to communicate and build relationships, the students independently came up with the idea to start a fundraiser for ALS research. Stay tuned, as we embark upon a meaningful, student-led project that ties in with our current units of study!
