Home Reading

We encourage students to read at least 15-20 minutes per day to increase vocabulary understanding as well as improving reading fluency and comprehension. Reading physical books are always a great option, as well as programs such as Raz-Kids or Tumblebooks are excellent resources to make reading fun, as well as practicing comprehension. Please visit the Help at Home: Building a Reader tab for more information on how to support your child at home to become the best reader they can be. If you need or want more information, please feel free to contact me by email at cplett@rockyview.ab.ca.

Book Recommendation Cards

After reading a book at home, students need to write the title/author in their agenda, parents initials, then turn in into me to get a Book Recommendation Card that will be put up in the classroom. Once each student has read 15 books (and completed the cards), they will get a free pizza coupon! Books can be school library books, Public Library books, used bookstores, etc. BUT…. make sure the books are Good Fit books!! If they are too easy, we won’t get better at reading!!
