B.U.I.L.D. Math Centres

One of the most important parts of teaching is guiding and presenting opportunities for students to discover their abilities, areas for growth, and gain independence in the process. The B.U.I.L.D. program is similar in philosophy to Daily 5, where students rotate through various centres providing various mediums for learning and practicing math concepts. Some of the benefits are development of stamina, accountability and independence, as well allowing the teacher to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of each student.

Buddy Games – opportunities for students to learn and practice through partner activities
Using Manipulatives – exploration of math concepts using math tools (Base 10 Blocks, pattern blocks, money, etc.)
Independent Math – individual practice in math journals
Learning Numbers – exploration of math concepts through literacy or journaling
Doing Math – practice of concepts using technology

Students are encouraged to continue practicing their skills through exploration with games/activities, as well as sharing new games learned at school with their family members at home! Games and activities can be online (see Math Games tab on Main Menu), playing cards, flash cards, or any other creative way!
