Short “i”

Last couple weeks, we practiced using ‘short a’ in Word Work (Daily 5). Over the next couple weeks, we are going to look closer and practice ‘short i’! When at home, practice finding words in reading or even out-and-about that follow the ‘short i’ rule and sound. Below is the word list the kids will be practicing in class (Word Work in Daily 5). BUT… it is more important to practice applying the short i rule rather than just memorizing the specific words! I will be picking 4 out of the 5 words next Friday, plus adding one word that follows the rule to see if they can apply it! They will also be asked to write a sentence using each word, so you can practice that too!!

spelling words to practice for this week:

pink words: fifth, sick, milk, sit, this
green words: television, mixture, visit, Titanic, spelling

Challenge: Write some words that have a short i that are NOT in our list! Can you find any words that we wrote on the board during our word hunt that DON’T follow the short ‘i’ sound??

short i - 2 short i - 3 short i - a
