Canada Symbol Legend
Sometimes technology is great, but when it decides not to, it can be a pain!! I wanted to post the picture of all the symbols and questions the class came up with today for our Canadian legends, but alas, I am unable. Hopefully I can tomorrow!
Over the last couple weeks, we have been talking about symbols in patterns, but also how they can have certain meanings. Also, in different countries and cultures around the world, symbols that are unique to each culture/country are often followed by legends or stories to try and explain them. Today we read a story about how the Maple Leaf was so colorful. We talked about how legends are created to find a possible explanation to answer a question. Most of the time, the legends are not true and just stories, but they are often very creative! The 5 symbols of Canada that the class thought of are: maple leaf, cold winter winds, Canada Goose, moose, and the beaver. For each symbol, we then brainstormed different questions to base our legend stories on.
The following homework for the students tonight, is to tell you (the parents) what their symbol is, what question they want to use, and possible ideas to answer the question in a legend. Please brainstorm some ideas together and write them down in a comment below. Tomorrow, we will all share each others ideas and begin writing our legends!
